When our family planned our trip to Universal Studios: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I created this great countdown calendar to put on the refrigerator to count down the days until we left. It was a morning ritual for one of the boys to mark another day closer to our big trip!

Note: This image is 8×10.5 to fit on an 8.5×11 sheet. I suggest printing on card stock to keep a permanent marker from soaking through so easily. Alternatively, you can frame it and use a wipe-off marker on the glass to get the same result. You’ll just have to trim the edges a bit.

Harry Potter Inspired Advent Calendar
Want a super easy advent calendar to countdown to your favorite holiday, birthday party or trip? This magical countdown calendar is great as it uses envelopes and hand-drawn letters, but you could easily create a template of the envelope, and print those numbers off in whatever Harry Potter font you love most. Most printers already have standard size envelopes programmed. Fill each envelope with a treat, a hint, a sticker or other fun item to help make the time go by faster! This particular calendar was filled with Lego Harry Potter figures, but you could do Bertie Bots, stickers, trinkets, and more!

If you want to get REALLY inspired to create something spectacular, look at this advent countdown project from MissingWillow at craftster.org.
This took some planning, uses a craft project box you can get at any craft store or Amazon.com, with these little potions bottles, a fireplace and more great items she found in her stash. I love this idea for Christmas or birthdays. While time-consuming, it’s a wonderful treasure, don’t you agree!?
