Hi! I’m Darcy. Thanks so much for stopping by.
I’m not a doctor, lawyer, reaver or Kardashian, nor do I play any of them on TV.
What I’ve Learned about being Geek for the sake of my family
What I am is a Mom who didn’t grow up geek, but married one who is hard-core, plus raised up with two very geekish children, and I’ve learned a thing or two after all these years about embracing the life for our family.
- Be involved in their interests
- Be supportive of their interest, even if you don’t really get it.
- Be geek with them, even if it sometimes makes you feel a little silly.
Case in point. Meet Mr. and Mrs. Arhur Weasley of The Burrow, their children Percy Jackson and Steve Minecraft, as they hung out with Doctor Who (Peter Capaldi) at a recent Comic-con.
Sure, I felt silly dressing up, but it was loads of fun. My kids thought it was great that I was finally doing a little cosplay along with them, but the joy at kids calling out for Mrs. Weasley at the convention and wanting a hug was a great way to fill up with their joy!
What else do we do?
While we are geeks, we are ever mindful that the Creator of the Universe is still our focus, we just enjoy having these entertaining bits of life to fill some of our time, as well as working at our local food pantry, teaching at church and more. We homeschool, are involved in fencing, archery and animation.
I want to show you our life, and how you can embrace the geek, for your family’s sake, and make your life so much more!
