Pumpkin season (aka fall) is my favorite season. I don’t know why, but I just love it. And one of the most fun things is the amazing art that is created in carving these orange gourds. The problem is we don’t always have time to dig into a beautifully awesome carved pumpkin of the Van Gough Starry Starry Night meets Doctor Who concept or the ones that require more hands than we have at the moment.
We’re families, and sometimes that means we need quick, easy, simple, and awesome. Here are super-easy, geeky ideas for easy, DIY, geeky pumpkin carving ideas
EASY, Geeky Pumpkin Carving Ideas
The Pumpkin pi Carved Pumpkin
Tip: Create your own pattern by searching for a PI .png printable online, or use this ALT 227 on your keypad and enlarge it to the size you need it. (MAC users need to do But wait – you’re a geek, you should already know how to do this! )
APPLE CARVED PUMPKIN
For all the Apple enthusiasts out there, while this looks like it might be daunting, it’s a matter of finding the right shape pumpkin, cutting it not quite in half, and creating bite (but gluing a piece back in). It’s awesomely geeky!
Harry Potter Carved Pumpkin
This is a fairly easy pumpkin to carve since it is mostly straight lines and no pieces to ‘connect’. Just use the Harry Potter font you can get off dafont (and see a list of other awesome free Harry Potter fonts you can get here). Print the letters out in your favorite word processor or just download this image to save some time (it’s created in a 6″ design space. You may have to shrink or expand it depending on the size of your pumpkin.
Disney Tinkerbell Carved Pumpkin
Don’t let this one fool you – it’s done with a drill and different sized drill bits. Super easy once you get Tink cut out!
Spiderman Carved Pumpkin
Here is another really easy pumpkin. Cutting out the eye holes is super easy, then just ‘carve’ the spider web by only going through the top layers of the pumpkin skin, not all the way through. And if they get a little wobbly — bonus because it’s spider web!

Disney has great pumpkin carving templates on their site (I’m pretty partial to the Phineas and Ferb ones!) that you can look at if you’re a big Disney Geek, and here’s the epitomy of scarey-fun for Halloween
Dalek / Doctor Who Pumpkin Carving Idea
This Dalek is good even for a beginner since it is basic geometrical shapes plus some a few kitchen tools you already have. They used a Sonic Screwdriver implanted in the forehead of the Dalek for effect. Click on the link to go to the video.
